Today, people of china have made this dance a compulsory part of New Year celebrations. The spiritual attachment to the lion is what has led to the use of the lion theme. They feel proud to decorate their homes with the picture and even statue of this animal due to the fact that they consider it a protector animal. Other dances from different parts of the world are quite different from the lion dance which makes it very special. This dance requires two people to wear one dress that resembles a lion. As shaggy hairs of different colors cover the participants' head, the bodies remain covered by a multi-color fabric. Also, there are multi-shade paints and furs that are used to decorate the participants besides the colored feathers decorations on their heads and clothes. This dance is not same in whole China; you can classify it into northern and southern dances. The northern lion dance has got its lion that is very shaggy with the colors yellow, red, orange and even a combination of these colors. The origin of the northern dance is the imperial courts which makes it very energetic and fun. You can see a variety of stunts in this dance. The northern dance will also incorporate features such as the entire family. The entire family is usually represented as you will get to see the male, female and even the younger one. The red bow is representative of the male while the green one female. According to the people of the south, this is a very important dance. It is believed that this dance will keep evil away from them and also disease. The representation of the lion in the south is the mirror that glitters in their forehead. Furthermore, they have some gold foiled rims on their backs. A long tail is also characteristic of the southern lion. This lion dance is becoming very popular to the extent that several other countries are adopting it.
